The Cherry Pie Paradox: The Surprising Path to Diet Freedom and Lasting Weight Loss, by Joy Imboden Overstreet MPH, creator of the original Thin Within workshops in 1975The Cherry Pie Paradox: The Surprising Path to Diet Freedom and Lasting Weight Loss is sequential process of awareness exercises that puts the reader in the role of curious scientist, seeking to discover and dismantle the counter-productive thoughts, beliefs, habits, and behaviors that have kept them stuck in the yo-yo syndrome. It’s based on Thin Within–the revolutionary anti-diet workshop program I created in 1975 to heal myself forever of a food and diet obsession. During the 1970s it became the leading weight loss program in the San Francisco Bay Area, and aspects of it have been adapted and adopted ever since. (I left in 1980 for graduate school, marriage and a baby, so have nothing to do with the Christian Thin Within that ensued.)

The techniques and tools I developed intuitively, based on my own experience (and tested by hundreds of Thin Within participants) have now been validated by current research in neuroscience and cognitive behavior therapy. (Science stuff validated in books like Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole, The Extended Mind by Annie Murphy Paul, The Craving Mind by Judson Brewer, MD.)

But this is much more personal–a self-directed inquiry and action plan, with a focus on a major mind shift, because our actions and results begin in our minds, with who we think we are, and who we think we are not. If you think of yourself as a person with a weight problem, then you’ll never feel quite safe around food or allow yourself to enjoy treats without guilt. You’ll never appreciate the body you have, as it is… The Cherry Pie Paradox helps you uncover a more positive identity, which leads to clearer intentions, wiser choices and better outcomes.

I hope you’ll buy it, use it, and share it with friends. I believe it’s life-changing.

I’m not slacking off! Color palettes still going strong.
Even though I’ve not posted much here lately I’ve never been busier doing personal color palettes. Big pent-up demand since everyone was locked down in masks and sweatpants. (We may be going into another lockdown as I write this. PLEASE GET VAXXED! I’m only seeing vaxxed clients these days.)

Let me know how I can be of service…

"Alive! with Joy" is an eclectic mix of inspiration, design and culture, plus photos. Always thought provoking.
